I took the Eagle in to get an emissions re-test today. Using half the old gas and filling up with new gas right before the test seems to have done the trick, because it passed!! Carbon monoxide was almost nil, and hydrocarbons were down more than 1000 parts per million from last time. So you know what that means- it's no longer an orphaned out-of-stater with expired tags and a pitiful 30-day permit.
And checkout the watermark on the title. Arizona knows what's up.
Not only got the title, but also the plate... so it's officially a real car now.
And there was much rejoicing.

AWESOME
Congrats man, glad you didn't have to replace much else on it to get it passed!

I like how it isn't an AMC its an American Motors Corporation!
Awesome car!

Thanks! And yeah, I dodged a bullet on that one.

You lucky B.
I want one of those. Though, I'd have to get the entire car coated in Rhino-liner or something because the salt around here (Ohio) would eat that in one winter.

I'm assuming this is unique to AMC Eagle titles.

Yep, there's lots of exposed metal on the underside. Lucky for me this thing has lived in the west for probably its whole life, so... not a lot of salt exposure.

Congrats! I'll keep my eyes open for you.

Heh... it's more like the state is saying, "even if your car's title isn't for an Eagle, it should be."

So wait, Arizona allows you to make the repairs needed to get the car up to spec yourself? From what I remember, Ohio required that you had to take it to an Ohio certified mechanic to get the work done.
If my memory is correct, then fuck my state even more.

If it isn't, I don't want to hear otherwise.

Yeah, on the back of the "you failed emissions" paper there's a place to put the cost of the repair, what it consisted of, and whether you did it yourself or had a shop do it. Even though it sometimes goes badly, Arizona has a libertarian streak a mile wide. This is one of the times when it goes well.

That color, wow.

Cool! Just something about driving a car with a real, solid plate that makes it that much more enjoyable. I'm sure i missed previous updates, but do you have any more photos of it?

Yeah, there's photos scattered all through the previous updates, but this one has more than most, although they're from before I started working on it:

You can see all the updates here: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/tag/1985-amc-e… . In case you want to go even unnecessarily further back, I started writing about it at http://85eagleproject.blogspot.com , before I got on Oppo.

This is the most american/awesome title in existence.

sounds like communism.

No, it's just the same plain old cronyism that seems to pervade state politics. It's not what you know, or who you know, but who you've paid.
